Black Sage (Salvia malifera) grows along the coasts of Mexico and California. It is very well known and popular among Central American Native Americans and shamans. It is used in purification rituals and to ward off evil forces. Its spicy, aromatic smoke helps to perceive visions and understand their messages. White Sage ( Salvia Apiana) is a plant held sacred by shamans and has been used for centuries in cleansing rituals. This clears not only the environment in which we live, but also the mind and thoughts. White sage has a pungent scent.

Its use is relatively simple. The bundle is lit, left to burn for a short time, blown out and left to cremate on a non-combustible support such as a shell, plate or bowl. The smoke spreading from the bundle can be dispersed around the room by hand or with a bundle of feathers. After the ceremony is completed, the end of the incense can be cut off, left to incinerate and the remainder of the bundle used in the following form.
