Ylang Ylang tree is native to Far Eastern countries such as Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia. Its yellow flowers have a very strong fragrance and long petals. The flowers are an abundant source of essential oil, making them among the cheapest to grow, but they are also very popular in the perfume and cosmetics industry for their aroma.
The world of aromatherapy considers this oil one of the best for relaxing the mind and body. It is also said that its fragrance is sufficient to reduce high blood pressure. Using the oil in baths or massage oils naturally enhances the relaxation experience. It is used to relieve stress, depression, shock or anxiety. Used as a hair tonic, it balances the oil production of the epidermis. Be warned that high concentrations of ylang ylang may cause headaches or nausea.
Ylang Ylang is Malay for flower-flower and has traditionally been considered an aphrodisiac and "relaxing" fragrance. In Indonesia, the flowers of the tree are a must at any wedding. Muslim women used to burn this oil to scent their harem - a part of the palace reserved for women. In China, the scent was used to sanctify the robes of Mandarin monks. Ylang Ylang essential oil is still an important ingredient in perfumes today.
Professional Essential Oils are available in specialised packaging, mainly for aromatherapists, or for users who use them in larger quantities.
