The oil has antiseptic and antifungal properties due to constituents called terpenoids and is used today in a wide range of cosmetics.
Tea Tree Essential Oil is said to be good for relieving colds, coughs and flu. It is also a great help in the care of acne, fungal infections, dandruff, vaginal infections and haemorrhoids. It is known to soothe aching muscles and heal joint injuries. Added to bath water it helps fight bacteria. Tea tree oil should not be used internally. It is usually only recommended for adults and should be kept away from children and pets. Do not use if you are a pregnant or breastfeeding mother.
The tea tree has been known for its healing properties in eastern Australia since ancient times . Aboriginal Australians have used the crushed leaves for centuries to heal cuts, burns, ulcers and infections. They have used the oils from the leaves to relieve coughs and colds by inhaling them, and for sore throats in the form of tea. This essential oil became known in Europe between 1920 and 1930, when it began to be used for its antimicrobial properties.
