Green Lemon essential oil is extracted from Citrus Aurantifolia, also known as Mexican or West Indian green lemon. The oil is extracted from the peel of the unripe skin by cold pressing or from the peel and/or the whole ripe fruit by steam distillation. Green lemon oil has a pungent, citrusy fragrance that immediately improves one's mood.
Used in a vaporizer, Green Lemon essential oil stimulates the tired mind and relieves anxiety, a great helper in relieving apathy and depression. Useful for reducing fever associated with colds, sore throats and flu. It increases resistance, relieves coughs, bronchitis, sinusitis and asthma. It is useful in the treatment of arthritis, rheumatism and poor circulation, as well as in the relief of obesity and cellulite. This oil is very good for the skin, reducing oiliness and acne, helping to cure herpes, treat insect bites and bruises. However, the oil obtained by cold pressing may cause photosensitivity and irritation of the skin.
Green lemon originated in Asia but is now grown in most warm climate countries. It was introduced to Arabia from the eastern Mediterranean and Africa. It reached Europe in the 12th and 13th centuries thanks to the Crusaders returning from the Middle East. It spread to the Americas during colonisation, like other citrus fruits.
Professional Essential Oils are available in specialised packaging, mainly for aromatherapists and users who use them in larger quantities.
