Marjoram Essential Oil is a steam distilled oil extracted from the Thymus mastichina plant. This plant has hairy stems, oval leaves and white flowers growing in small clusters. The whole plant emits a strong aroma. This plant is actually wild thyme, but is also known as Spanish wild marjoram. This Spanish marjoram is not the same as sweet or French marjoram, nor is it the same as oregano, which is also called wild marjoram.
This oil is more effective than sweet marjoram when used to treat respiratory infections and spasms as it has antiseptic properties, but is not a muscle relaxant like sweet marjoram. Spanish marjoram oil is often used in aromatherapy and blends well with lavender and bergamot oils to create a truly relaxing and restful atmosphere. When used in a vaporizer or massage oil, this oil soothes the nerves and also aids digestion.
Spanish wild marjoram is known to have been used as a medicinal herb by the ancient Greeks. The ancient Greeks and Romans crowned young married couples with marjoram wreaths, a symbol of love, honour and happiness. Honeyed marjoram tea is often used by singers to preserve their voices.
Professional Essential Oils are available in special packaging, mainly for aromatherapists, or for users who use them in larger quantities.
