Frankincense essential oil is steam distilled from the resin of the Boswellia carterii tree of the Burseraceae family and is also known as Olibanum. The word comes from the French franc meaning luxurious and is the first known and used as a fragrance resin, along with myrrh. The tree is native to the Middle East, where it grows in a bonsai form. Incense is believed by many to symbolise divinity.

This oil is very popular in aromatherapy for its soothing properties. It helps heal wounds and prevents scars from forming.
