Lajos Kassai has been preserving and revitalizing the long-forgotten Hungarian horseback archery tradition for over 36 years. He works not for recognition or financial gain, but to keep the Hungarian spirit and heritage alive. The martial arts school he leads is more than just a sport; it offers a philosophy of life. Here, students learn values such as humility, focus, discipline, respect, dignity, and elegance, while also connecting more deeply with themselves and their historical roots.

A Global Legacy

For 30 years, Lajos Kassai taught horseback archery free of charge, opening this ancient tradition to Hungarians and, later, introducing it to the world. Today, it has become an international movement spanning 18 countries, with Hungarians at the forefront from the very beginning. The world knows who we are—though we sometimes forget the legacy we hold. Horseback archery allows us to reconnect with our historical roots.

Yet, we don’t hear about this on the radio, see it on TV, or read about it in newspapers…

🏹 A Sport, Yet So Much More

Consider how much money is invested in other sports; many star athletes earn fortunes, affording every luxury imaginable—cars, vacations, villas… In contrast, for horseback archers, this sport is about preserving tradition and fostering a sense of community. It is not a source of livelihood, yet they approach it with the same dedication and commitment as elite athletes. Their choice of horseback archery is born from pure passion and love, and every contribution they receive goes towards community goals, not luxury expenses. There is a true nobility in this: they work quietly and humbly, without political backing.

🏹 A Spirit, Not a Luxury

When you support Lajos Kassai’s work and the Patkószög Foundation, you are supporting a spiritual center that, for the past 36 years, has opened its doors to visitors on the first Saturday of each month (not one Saturday has been missed in all these years!). This valley has never been just a sports center; it has become a true cultural pilgrimage site. A community where each visitor can discover the ancient values and traditions of the Hungarian people. Here, they teach not only horseback archery but also explore life’s fundamental questions. They engage in discussions about real societal issues, deep, thought-provoking topics, and our national heritage—dialogues that help us rediscover the heritage many of us have forgotten.

This valley is a place where people can reconnect with their national values and stands as a model of harmony between tradition and modernity.

🌿 Horseback Archery: An Amateur Sport, Yet a Profound Journey

While officially an amateur sport, for Lajos Kassai’s students, horseback archery is a way of life and a profound internal journey. This martial art is based on traditions, respect, and humility, and every training session and competition serves to nurture the spirit. The Kassai Valley, where open days are held on the first Saturday of each month, is not only a place but a home of Hungarian culture and spirit, where human values take center stage.

🤲 Now It’s Our Turn to Say Thank You!

Lajos Kassai has spent decades quietly and humbly working to share this culture as widely as possible. He created and maintains the valley with his own resources.
